ABOUT Nikias Arndt

After spending his younger years raking in successes on the track, 2013 saw this Buchholz-born powerhouse make his professional debut at Team Sunweb. Since then Nikias has taken several impressive results, including a Grand Tour stage win at the Giro d’Italia.

Last year’s season had just started when the 26-year-old sprinted to the prestigious victory at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, an obvious season highlight. After this, the Tour the France starting in his home country, Germany, was a highlight for him and he was surrounded by family and friends as he rode to 11th place in the prologue. Two weeks later, deep into the Tour, Nikias came very close to his biggest victory. “At the end of stage 19 the win was between myself and one other rider. Unfortunately, my legs just weren’t good enough to win but I can’t blame myself, I gave it all.”

The German is very competitive and in every game or sport he never lets stress overpower him. For the upcoming year, together with the team, Nikias aims to further strengthen himself by improving his balance between training, racing and spending time at home.

It will be an exciting year for the fast men in the team with Michael Matthews, Phil Bauhaus, Max Walscheid, Edward Theuns and Nikias himself totalling five world-class sprinters. “We all have our own speciality in sprinting, so we will always choose the right sprinter for the right race. This team has proven that they have the extensive knowledge to make the right choices.”

"I always keep a cool head"
