Lucinda Brand put in a strong performance on stage 4 of the Boels Ladies Tour to score points in the sprints competition late in the day before then racing to 2nd place in the final bunch kick. With this result, Lucinda moves herself up to 4th on GC, 22 seconds down with just two stages to go.
The day was for the most part a steady one for the peloton with a lone leader for much of the race, and a consistent chase behind for much of the stage. The pace gradually picked up in the finale with attacks coming from the front of the peloton and the final escapee only being caught in the final few kilometres before the sprint was set up.
With just 8km to go, and the race all back together, Lucinda sprinted to 3rd place in the 2nd intermediate sprint of the day, gaining time and points, before then getting into position again at the finish for the final sprint effort to the line.
At the end of stage 4, Team Sunweb remain in a strong position as a team, with four riders in the top 10, separated by just 40 seconds.
After the stage, Team Sunweb coach Hendrik Werner said: “We expect a lot of action tomorrow and therefore it seemed lots of riders were keen to save their legs today apart from one rider who did a long solo ride. For us it was a relaxed day until we entered the final laps where the field really strung out. In the end we were able to place our riders at the front for the final bunch sprint where Lucinda took second so we can be happy with the result.”
